Great value for money! The location was perfect, 5 minutes walk from the old city centre and harbour. The rooms/facilities are in good condition and the staff are helpful and friendly.
The only negative point is that we arrived at 3pm, tired and wiery after a day of travelling to find that our rooms weren't ready. Check-in is advertised as midday onwards; we had to wait whilst the cleaners did their thing!
Our stay at the Afonso was our second visit having stayed there in July 2010. We found the facilities excellent and the staff very helpful. The hotel is very convenient for the bus stop for travel to both the airport and the beach. Our room was very clean with a comfortable double bed and the all important air conditioning. The continental breakfast was very good with a selection of fresh fruit and pastries which we found to be adequate. We have recommended the Afonso to several friends and are intending to stay again next July.
Hotel located 300 meters from the Bus Station in Faro as well as from the old town. Rooms are clean but they could be already renovated. Breakfast is included and it was sufficient for me. Good place for short stay in Faro.
Rooms need to be renovated. The whole equipment was from 80s.
Nice rooms, nice view on the sea, reasonable price. The position is excellent for visiting the city without sleeping in a noisy environment. The hotel area is, in fact, rather calm.
They should not advertise that they have a wireless network, if they do not. The room was a bit small, and the breakfast not very rich, but I guess that's a common thing in the south of Europe.
The hotel was nice and quiet. We had a nice view over a part of the city. The room was cleaned very well and fresh towels were delivered every day. Friendly and helpfull staff. Breakfast was simple, but fresh and good.
Very friendly staff in excellent hotel ; comfortable bed in quiet, clean room with flat screen t.v. and large balcony ; open 3 hours for breakfast ; lavazza espresso at reception 24 hrs and free internet 24 hrs in comfy lounge ; quiet efficient elevator ; 10 mins slow walk to old town centre ;good location for day trips via bus/train ; I shall return !
The Residencial Afonso lll was a great place for us to stay as we were flying out of Faro at 6 am. It is a 2 min walk from the train station and seemed to be in a good location. Staff was fantastic and very eager to assist with directions, information etc. Rooms were small but comfortable. A very nice place, for the budget traveller.
Bathtub was permenantly stained where bathmat should be and bathroom could have been cleaner. I think it was more the appearance of being dirty (eg old grout, stained floor etc) than actual dirt.
Staff and Hotel good. Value for money - best we could find. Will stay again.
Google Map and Directions wrong. Hotel is in completely different part of town. When will Booking, com given correct information?
this hotel was good value for money. It had a nice continental breakfast, free internet and helpful staff. the air con was very appreciated too.
There was an awful smell in the bathroom on our first night. we covered up the drain in the floor with a towel and it was ok then. rooms quite small, we had moved from another hotel with larger rooms so found it a bit off putting that there was so little storage/ clothes areas .
This hotel is situated very close to bus (5 min waking) and train station in Faro. It is also in the center of the town, although the street Bombardier is not so nice... due to industrial district. But any way, hotel is very clean, nice personel ( speaking english fluently), comfortable bad, nice room, good aircondition and basic breakfast. It is very easy to travel all around Faro from Afonso III because it is near by bus stop, so you can take any bus to the beach or airport. I can realy recommend this hotel in Faro! Only one disadvantage is that no fresh fruits and bad coffe during breakfast...
No good Coffe and no fresh fruits on the breakfast!
I found the hotel comfortable, the service excellent and the staff helpful and friendly. One staff member even remembered me from a short visit I made in 2008!
The staff were friendly and helpful, the bedroom was clean and comfortable and had air conditioning the bathroom was well stocked with towels and had both shower and bath. The breakfast was ample plenty of fresh bread, cereal and fruit juices.
The only downfall was the bedroom was a little small but had sufficent storage space.
The staff were correct and informative, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was abundant.
The hotel is in a not very attractive part of the city although it is convenient to the rail and bus stations
Very good location near bus and train station, walking distance from the city centre and shopping centre. Airco, which is certainly needed during the summer in faro.
The breakfast is very basic
Room was clean and neat... Good breakfast...Though incorrectly located on Booked.net map
Incorrect on Booked.net map... on the map that it was located in the town centre...where we wanted to stay. We wasted a lot of time and energy lugging heavy luggage around looking for the hotel... only to find that it was a very short distance from the train station.. which was how we arrived. Very frustrating... hotel could have handled the situation better...they said that it wasn't their fault that it was on the map wrong (shouldn't they check)! Tripple Room faced the street and was rather noisy.
